Goal(s):

  • Develop novel soft magnetic materials and composites for variable frequency applications, including electric vehicles.
  • Optimize hard magnetic materials for performance and efficient/lean use of critical materials
  • Leverage additive manufacturing and laser processing techniques to realize optimized topologies and net shaped magnetic and electromagnetic materials.
  • Understand and tune atomic and electronic structure in quantum and functional magnetic materials in both two-dimensional (2D) and bulk systems, including MXenes and dichalcogenides
  • Apply operando microscopy techniques to understand behavior of wide band gap materials and devices at the atomic scale, including Gallium Oxide
